Upgrading from versions older than 7

Customers using Ideal POS System 5.5 can upgrade to 6.03, then to the latest build of Idealpos 7.1 and then finally to 9.

Customers using versions prior to 5.5 will need to convert to the latest version 5.5 first before upgrading to 6.03.

Customers on 6.0 > 6.02 builds will still see a conversion process, but it is not as involved as a 5.5 upgrade.

Upgrading from 5.5 to 6.03 should be done in the following order: 5.5 > 6 > 6.01 > 6.02 > 6.03 build 132 or higher.

Test Upgrade Conversion

Before upgrading your existing Ideal POS System Software to version 7 then to 8, we strongly recommend you test the conversion process first.

Procedure

Ensure that Idealpos Build 6.03.0132 or above is running on the terminal, and that you have restarted the terminal.
Backup the current database as a precaution.
Uninstall Idealpos 6.03 (this does not remove the current database). If required, copy the License Key Utility to another location, as the utility will be removed as part of the v6 uninstall and the utility is required to lock existing v6 License Keys once v7 is installed.
Install Idealpos 7 Framework and Build. You are prompted to upgrade, with the default path to the current database pre-filled.
Run License Key Utility to lock existing v6 keys, ensuring that screenshots are taken of the utility showing that keys have been locked (save screenshots and send to Idealpos as proof - see below for further info).
Install Idealpos 8 Framework and Idealpos v9 Build. You are prompted to upgrade, with the default path to the current database pre-filled.

Providing Proof of Transfer

As part of the upgrade process, you will need to lock the Idealpos 6 license keys.

Warning!

The License Key Utility will only run on a PC that has Idealpos v7/v7.1 installed.

It will not run on a PC without Idealpos, nor will it run on a PC that has been upgraded to Idealpos v8/v9!

Therefore, during the upgrade process, it is important that you upgrade to v7.1, then once upgraded, run the License Key Utility to lock the license keys.

Once the License Key Utility has been used to lock the v6 keys, the Idealpos v9 installation can then be completed.

Finding the Licence Key Utility

Warning!

The Licence Key Utility is removed during the v6 uninstall and is unavailable in v7/v8/v9 as it is not part of those installers.

The Licence Key Utility will only successfully run on a PC that has Idealpos v7/v7.1 installed.

It will not run on a PC that has Idealpos v8/v9 installed!

You can perform these steps on any system where Idealpos 6 and the Licence Key Update utility is still installed.

Alternatively, you can copy the folder from a PC where Idealpos 6 is still installed, where it is located in the following locations:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Idealpos Solutions\Idealpos 6.0\IBS Licence Key Update

C:\Program Files\Idealpos Solutions\Idealpos 6.0\IBS Licence Key Update

Copy the whole folder and you can run it from anywhere on the required PC (provided that the required PC is still running Idealpos v7/v7.1). As stated above, the License Key Utility will not run on a PC that has been upgraded to Idealpos v8/v9.

Locking the Key

To lock a key:

Ensure the key in a USB drive
Start the Licence Key Update Utility.
Select Lock.
Please provide a screen capture of each key you lock and email to Idealpos to complete the process.

Transferring Graphics

When upgrading a site from v6 to v7, if there are pictures for the POS buttons, you will need to move the images from the Idealpos 6.0 pictures folder into the Pictures folder in Program Data.

Pre v6 - C:\Program Files or (x86)\Idealpos Solutions\Idealpos 6.0\Pictures

v7/v8/v9 - C:\ProgramData\Idealpos Solutions\Idealpos\Pictures

Simply copy the images from the Idealpos 6.0 Pictures folder into the new location, restart POS and the images will work as previously.
